Welcome to the blog!
This inaugural post is about golf and the self-publishing of a golf-related novel. If you scroll through the michaeljstott.com website you will see a fuller explanation of this seamless three novella tale. Like this publishing effort it is a coming-of-age story about a young man who learns about life and people as he works as a caddie, grounds crew member and pro shop assistant at a suburban Chicago country club.
It is a fictional work with experiences drawn from real life. Those who live that life have endorsed the behaviors of the book’s characters and chuckled along the way. I hope you will too.
Too Much Loft has been thirty years in creation. Parts One and Two, Mrs. Peck and Mr. O and fifty pages of The Pro Shop were completed by 1994. Those pages remained untouched until my retirement as a swim coach in 2018. Then, at the urging of my son David, I began to flesh out the third novella plot, renewed by the ideas which trespassed upon my unencumbered mind.
I’ve been asked ‘why write a book?’ I worked in corporate communications for more than thirty years. As a freelancer and contract business, swimming and golf writer I have published more than one thousand magazine articles. My Old School self always maintained that if you call yourself a writer, you need to have a book. Now I do.
Too Much Loft is digitally available now in Kindle and Nook – and in print from the Bookbaby.com site through the link bit.ly/3z90BFB. Available July 16 from Amazon, Barnes & Noble and book distributors worldwide on July 16.
Enjoy this breezy summer read.
